crazy - it is after all a beautiful city, very easy to get around,
full of history and wonderful architecture. But I think you will all
think its crazy to have done all this wandering when the temperature
has been well below zero for most of the day (must admit I am somewhat
frozen).
It was great fun though! I walked through the very genteel
neighbourhood of Beacon Hill where you will find beautiful red brick
terraces and stories of slaves running to freedom. Also walked through
Boston Common which is the big public park (and very icy and snowy!).
I also walked the Freedom Trail where I saw the balcony where they
read the Declaration of Independence, Paul Revere's house and the
cemetery where notables such as Benjamin Franklin now lie. A tour of
the U.S.S. Constitution at the end of the trail was interesting
because I found out the ship is not strictly a museum piece but still
goes out "on duty". I put that in inverted commas because it doesn't
really pick fights anymore but it was interesting to see how the
sailors lived and worked 200 years ago.
Now I am in a cafe on Newbury St in Back Bay (which is quite a
fashionable shopping area) warming myself with some hot chocolate....
trying to convince myself that its not that cold out there........
I'll post some photos shortly.
