very quiet weekend. I ended up working a lot of the weekend, but we
got a bit of time together as well.
We had aw nice meals and some relaxing time as well, which we very nice.
The next week was a busy one at work. We had a few major initiative
going ahead, and I was responsible for making them all happen. It was
fun, but tough work as well.
Jere and Kylie arrived from London to spend a few days with us near
the end of the week. We had a lovely time with them looking around
some of the sights of NYC. Some of the highlights were, Friday night
at the NY Philharmonic orchestra; dinner at Whymm restaurant; dinner
at En japanese restaurant and taking them to Lela bar (our favourite
wine bar in Manhattan). It was great catching up with them as well and
getting all the news and updates. Just sitting and chatting was very
cool.
Then, we had the weekend which I fortunately have not needed to do too
much work through. I had a couple of hours of work each day, but
knocked that over pretty quickly.
On Saturday, we went shopping with Jere and Kylie at Woodbury Common,
upstate in NY. It was a good fun day. I bought a few clothes, and
Vesna got a few as well. For Jere and Kylie - it was fantastic. With
the weak US dollar at the moment, their pounds were doing well. They
shopped up a storm. Kylies shopping stamina was incredible. I cracked
at about 3pm and caught the bus home with Vesna. Kylie was still going
strong at 8pm. Finished all her Christmas shopping for this year (yep
- I know it is only March).
Then, on Sunday, we got up moderately early and picked up a rental
car, and drove up to Connecticuit. Kylie had said she wanted to see
Connecticuit, so off we went.
First stop was New Haven - home of Yale University. Absolutely
gorgeous. The old buildings and the beautiful gardens were just
magnificent. The architecture was a combination of the old colleges at
Oxford (or Cambridge I am told) and more modern stylings as well. All
up, it was a beautiful town and a gorgeous campus. We had lunch there
as well. A bit challenging as it was Easter Sunday and a lot of things
were closed - but it was fun anyway.
The countryside was very pretty. Sparse because of winter, but pretty
nonetheless. The trees would be gorgeous in the Summer with the green;
or the Autumn (Fall) with the oranges and yellows.
We then went to the town of Mystic (the scene from quite a few
movies). It was a very touristy town, and pretty quiet at this time of
year. But, all the metered parking and threatening parking signs
suggest it is crammed during the summer months!
It was a lovely town by the river, with lots of boats moored or in
dry-dock. Lovely little cafes and pubs dotted through the town. There
was an old port museum, which had a "school excursion" kind of feel -
and a $15 charge to go in, so we skipped that!
Jere bought some delicious home made fudge there as well, which was
eagerly gobbled up on the next leg of the drive.
Then we headed to stoneborough, a few miles away. This was a much less
touristy town. It had a little (very little by Aussie standards!)
Beach, and was a much quieter looking town. The houses were the big,
stately, grand homes that are so common in the movies. There was a
little diner, and it was all very cute. It was at the mouth of the
river - so the fishing could be quite good there as well. It was a
little cold and windy there though - so much better in the summer.
Then the long drive back to NYC - traffic was ok, and it was good to chat.
More updates later!
